Questions
and Answers
Q. How will I know when I am registered?
A. You will receive an E-Mail immediately after registering. If you
do not then please check your E-Mail Address. We are notified by the
mail server when an E-Mail cannot be delivered so the next time you
log on you may have a notice to correct your E-Mail address.
Q. Is this legal?
A. Yes, it is completely legal. But remember that when a firearm is
sold or transported the provisions of the Firearms Acts must be obeyed.
The law is enforced to the letter.- Registered Firearms Dealers understand
the process. You can always obtain help by contacting your local police
firearms department.
Q. How do I get paid?
A. The arrangements for payment are handled by the buyer and the seller.
The Auctioneer is not responsible for completing transactions. When
the auction is over the highest bidder and the seller will be notified
by E-Mail and contract information is provided to each. From then on
the parties deal with each other, Sellers should specify acceptable
methods of payment at this point. If they do not the buyer will send
an E-Mail or, telephone. The Buyer will normally bear the cost of any
carriage charges.
Q. Can I change the lot's description or reserve after the auction
has begun?
A. No, Not once an auction has started. If there is a major error you
should send us an E-Mail and we will decide whether or not the description
etc., should be changed. Bad planning on your part does not constitute
an emergency or obligation on our part. Please be careful and accurate.
Q. Can I end the auction early?
A. No. The site is not a marketing device. To keep the site honest and
fair we must know that you genuinely intend to sell. Neither is a seller
able to bid on his own lot. The reserve price system means he does not
have to sell at an unacceptably low price.
Q. How are bid increments determined?
A. The seller determines the bid increments. We suggest 5%.
Q. What if I cannot contact the buyer/seller by E-Mail?
A. Because you are both registered users this should not occur. But,
of course the world is not perfect and E-Mail and telephone calls are
sometimes ignored. If E-Mail does not work let us know and we will investigate
and possibly ban the culprit from the site. Every reasonable precaution
is taken but problems no doubt will occur occasionally.
Q. What if the buyer, attempts to back out?
A. Once again report them. Send us an email. If necessary we will warn
other users. You will have your usual legal remedies. If the buyer has
no compelling reason in our opinion then we will ban him from using
the site. We shall be very concerned if we hear of any such practices.
You may also contact the next highest bidder and offer the lot to him.
Q. How do I insert a picture in my lot description?
A. Your picture must be stored on your computer in GIF or JPEG format.
The size of the image file must not exceed 64K. Click the Browse button
next to the file upload field and navigate to the location of the image
file on your computer. Any HTML tags in the description will be neutralized.
Alternatively send us a crisp photo we can scan onto our site.
Q. How does this reserve price auction work?
A. The reserve price is the lowest price the seller, will accept for
an item. If the reserve price is met the seller is committed to sell
the item to the highest bidder. The reserve price is never disclosed
to bidders. The seller sets the reserve price on entering a lot. This
gives sellers the assurance of not having to sell at an undervalue.
It is indicated by the lot during the auction if the reserve price has
been reached.
Q. What if the reserve price is not met?
A. If a lot is not sold then no notification will be made to any bidder.
The seller will be notified of the result of the auction in the usual
way. The seller may contact any bidder by looking in the Members Section
and offer the lot. Go to 'Completed Auctions' and click the number of
bids to view the bidding history of a completed auction.
Q. How I do know what my gun is worth? I inherited it but I have
no idea of its value.
A. There are several books on the subject mostly American including
the Blue Book of Guns. We can only really suggest you ask your local
Registered Firearms Dealer.
Q. I forgot my password what do I do now?
A. Go to the members page and enter your email address. You will receive
an email with your membership details.
Q. What about V.A.T. or local Taxes?
A. All bids are inclusive of VAT and local Taxes as are all asking prices
in the "for sale" ads.
Q. How do I inspect an item offered for sale?
A. Contact the Seller via the "Contact" link on the item's
listing page and arrange to meet and examine the item.
Q. How do I find out how an auction ended?
A. Check the item in the members section.
Q. What do I do if I cannot make contact with the seller by E-Mail?
A. This should not happen since you are both registered users. Try a
phone call and if no contact can be made let us know so we can investigate.
Some people do not check their E-Mail very often.
Q. What if the seller does not want to sell anymore?
A. This should not happen. You do of course, have the usual legal remedies.
But it is conceivable that a seller may have a change of mind for a
compelling reason. You have the option of sending us an email problem@gunsight.co.uk.
We may, at our discretion, ban any user from this site for any reason.
Q. Can I reduce or retract my bid once I have entered it?
A. No. Making a bid is an offer and if the reserve is reached there
is a binding contract with the highest bidder You should never bid unless
you intend to buy.
Q. Can I enter a maximum bid and have it go automatic as the auction
progresses?
A. Yes. Place your bid and check the "tracking" box.
